Water and sewer rates may soon be going up in Del Mar.

The Del Mar City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve higher rates for the next five years and set an appeal hearing for May 26 for anyone who opposes the increase. The time of the hearing has not been set.

The current schedule of rates was approved in 2004 and expires June 30. A citizens’ advisory committee working with consultant FCS Group recommended the new rate schedule that was presented to the council.
