Residents of Horse Creek Valley, South Carolina may soon get hit with a whopping 700 percent bill increase.

The 616 residential water customers currently pay a basic $3 water fee at a usage rate of 51 cents per 1,000 gallons. The proposed increase would set the base fee at $8 plus $4.50 per 1,000 gallons used. The current rate has been the same since 1980 when it was proposed and the community’s water system has long gone without infrastructure updates.
