San Luis Obispo residents could soon pay more for water and sewer services.

A typical family of four’s water bill could go up 12 percent this year, and an additional 11 percent in 2010, according to city water division Manager Gary Henderson.

The current rate of $47.15 for a household of four using 7,480 gallons of water per month would be increased to $52.80 this summer, and to $58.60 in the summer of 2010 if the increases are passed. The water rate for such a household in 2006 was $33 per month.

Henderson said double-digit increases will continue until the 2012-13 fiscal year, when he expects the rates to level off.
