With only one toilet and one tap, it seemed crazy to be handing money over when there’s plenty of rain water falling for free!

Using the parts for a water butt diverter, I just connected up to a drain pipe outside the shop and diverted rain water into a large tank with a shut off valve (salvaged from the local alotments).

Now our shop, Green Woods Furniture, is even greener, since all our non drinking water is provided thro our rainwater harvesting system – and it was so easy to do!

Surely all new houses should be doing something along these lines? Even a rainwater system with a mains water back up would save millions of gallons of wasted water in the UK?
