Phoenix residents almost certainly will be paying more for water and wastewater next year.
The 8.5 percent proposed increase will hike the monthly base bill to $52.84. The money will be used to pay for construction costs to meet federal safe drinking-water standards, rehabilitation and replacement of aging water and wastewater lines, treatment plant improvements and new water resources.
