If a Toilet Runs in the Bathroom, will Anybody Hear?: or Toilets don’t Walk, They Run! (LeakBird)
If a toilet runs in the bathroom, will anybody hear? You can bet your bottom dollar they’ll hear, but only when the property manager or landlord receives the high water bill, that is, AFTER THE FACT. And believe us, it’s loud and clear!
I remember my talk with Dana Haasz, Conservation Administrator for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
“Toilets run, Ben,” she said. “It’s a fact, toilets run.”
The fact she was trying to drive home, is that no matter how many HETs you outfit your residential building in San Francisco in order to receive rebates or subsidies (just don’t forget to upgrade with toilet fixtures from the list(s)!), you’re still going to be faced with one overarching problem:
Toilets run!
And if we can begin from this assumption, in the context of property management, high water bills and in-building residential water consumption, than we can safely acknowledge that given this reality, we need to endorse water security systems which reduce the damage which a running toilet or two can cause in the form of exorbitantly high water bills.
There is a need for water security, at the federal, state and local level, as well as the commercial and residential levels. Who pays the water bills?
Well, when we look at property management in the United States, 95% of the time the landlord or property manager foots the water bill for tenants’ water consumption.
Toilets run, oh yes they do. And that’s where the LeakBird water security system comes in:
The LeakBird communicates the running toilet to the tenant via an annoying alarm, taking its cues from the smoke detector invented several decades ago, which has seeped into our psyche because of its Pavlovian effectiveness.
The tenants calls the Landlord.
The running toilet is stopped before it becomes a big problem. Trust us, we know, as two running toilets in San Francisco which run for two weeks can easily add $1,000.00 to your water bill, and that doesn’t even take into account the cost of calling a plumber, fixing the problem, communicating with tenants, et cetera.
