If you recently received a high water bill, there’s a better than 90% chance that it was due to a running or leaking toilet.

Of course, in order to know that your water bill is a bit above the norm, you ought to know your typical, average monthly or bi-monthly water bill.  In a recent post, I caculcated the average US household water bill to be about $51.00.

The higher your water bill is above your average water bill, the more likely a toilet ran away with your cash flows.  In fact, 20% of all toilets are leaking to some degree at this very moment!

The flapper in your toilet is the most common cause of a running toilet.

However, it’s a known fact that toilets run.

And as water rates continue to rise, your running toilet is only going to be louder and louder, after it’s shown up on that high water bill.
