(Nov. 29, 2008, The Hi-Desert Star)

In an effort to stem an operating budget deficit, and to apply a fair rate schedule to the variety of water customers, the board voted to ask the rate payers to consider the following increases:

•    Basic service charge to all meter sizes within the agency’s service area would increase by no more than $7.50, bringing the monthly rate to no more than 27.50.

•    Water consumption charges would remain at $3 per cubic foot.

•    Basic service charges have never been applied to the Johnson Valley bulk meter users of Well 10, nor are any proposed at this time. Increases of no more than $2.62 would be applied to the consumption rate per cubic foot, bringing the rate to $9.62. This system serves private consumers and commercial water haulers.

•    Miscellaneous service charges are proposed for three services: Fire flow tests would be $100, a will-serve letter would cost $80 and the fee to open an account would be $35.
