About
LeakBird Industries, LLC is a company specializing in water conservation and leak detection for landlords and property managers, particularly with respect to tenants’ running toilets.
LeakBird.com is a free resource on water conservation news, particularly applied to the field of property management.
Our mission is to save landlords, property managers and water utilities millions of gallons of water per year via the LeakBird running toilet detector system that we have been developing.
The Solution to Unchecked Running Toilet Water:
We at LeakBird Industries have invented and patented a system that saves landlords, property managers and water managers their two most precious resources, water and money.
By securing the water supply at the single largest point of in-building waste, the toilet, the LeakBird ensures that excess water waste and high water bills due to running toilets are a thing of the past. With the LeakBird system in place, a once uncaring tenancy will care, and when there is a leak, you will hear about it.
Affordable and easy to install, the LeakBird device synthesizes the simplicity of the smoke detector with the highest innovation of 21st century acoustic leak detection technology.
Installation is a snap, achieved by simply peeling back the industrial strength adhesive and sticking the small 6’’x 2 1/2’’ x 1 1/4” device just above the water level in the toilet tank.
Running on just two replaceable AA batteries for over two years, and built to last a decade, the LeakBird is energy efficient and robust in its functionality, scanning the acoustic environment for the presence of a toilet leak 24/7.
When the LeakBird sings, people listen.
The Shocking Truth About Your Water
A toilet that runs for two weeks wastes 60,000 gallons of water.
- In San Francisco, 60,000 gallons of water wasted by a running toilet costs upwards of $750.00
Currently there is no affordable and accurate system available designed to secure your water.
- 90% of high water bills are due to leaking toilets
- 10% of all water consumption is attributed to leaking toilets
- 95% of residental buildings are not individually metered, meaning that 95% of renters are not responsible for water bill payment
Your water is completely out of your control when it comes to leaking plumbing fixtures.
As a landlord, property manager or water manager, your two most precious resources are water and money.
Solution: The LeakBird
The LeakBird System is a patented device that sounds an alarm when a toilet is leaking or running. This chirping of the LeakBird is designed to inspire a proactive response on the part of a tenant to a leaking water condition. Water and money savings is predicated on the idea that an alarm will insure a response to unchecked running water that is equal in its urgency to the level of the problem.
The fact is that when people don’t pay for their own water, as is the case in most cities, there is little incentive to check excess water flow, or to educate oneself with regard to the high level of waste that a running toilet can generate. The alarm of the LeakBird works to provide this incentive by putting a proactive sound to the problem.
After a toilet runs for 10 minutes, the LeakBird, via its patented acoustic leak detection technology, sounds an alarm which does not stop until either the toilet is turned off at the source, or the alarm has sounded for 10 minutes. Thereafter, the LeakBird continues to sound an alarm every two hours for 10 minutes at a time until the running toilet is fixed. In this way a response is a near guarantee.
